The ‘Nothing to Wear’ Effect

It was another one of those days this weekend where I stood there in my closet, staring at all of my clothes, thinking ‘I have nothing to wear’. It wasn’t because I was pregnant, it wasn’t because I literally had nothing to wear…it’s that thing that happens to all of us girls where we are ‘over’ our wardrobe.

For me, I’ve been feeling myself changing recently in the way that I look. I’m getting my hair done this week for a new look and I’m feeling the same way about my wardrobe. Sometimes we get these urges to do a self-makeover. Is it all of those reality shows that we watch that make us want to change? Is it magazines or Pinterest posts? I think it’s something instilled in us…the urge to try something new, the desire to have a fresh start on ones self + ‘start over‘ without having to go anywhere. How simple to change ones look like changing into a costume. Color your hair, replace your clothes, wear your makeup differently, shape your nails a different way, + take up a new hobby. Though you’re the same person, you feel invincible in  your new skin. If you have never experienced this, I encourage you to do so. It’s invigorating!

So as I stood there, thumbing through my color-coordinated attire; hanging from lights to darks, short-sleeved to long-sleeved; considering what would best match my mood. That was when I started to believe that it was really time for my change. Change is expensive + I’m not made of money, so it would be a slow transition, but so worth it. I started thinking about the clothes I would get to replace my current ones + so I threw something on + headed out the door into town.

Right now is kind of the best and kind of the worst time to go shopping. You see, stores are in transition between their overstocked, leftover winter clothes + spring line. This means sales…knock-you-off-your-feet sales sometimes, too! My mom scored big time getting clothes for my little brother at Hollister, so I figured I’d find something! However, this is also a horrible time to be shopping because all of the stores are practically bare. Their clearing out their shelves + their racks to make way for new clothes. The leftovers usually aren’t in your size or way to ‘winter-y’ to be purchasing just a month or two before the new season. Ugh…so hard! I found nothing. Yep…nothing! The stores in my town didn’t carry those perfect clothes I was looking for. What else to do than cyber shop!? Guess I’ll be hitting up some sales online to score some major finds + slowly but surely start replacing my closet with my new skin.

Though I’ll have to pump the breaks on my new closet the bigger my pregnant stomach gets, I know that I’ll be back to the sales racks when baby is out + I’m deflating. For now, though, I’m blessed to be able to still fit into my ‘normal’ sized clothes, so I’ll take advantage of that time to get some new threads. Watch out cyber sales…I’m coming for you!

Palettes I love for my new wardrobe plans:
